About
Edward Percy Moran was known for his vividly painted depictions of American history. Here, Moran renders a victorious George Washington inspected the flag of the defeated army. In true Washington fashion, he appears stoic and pillar-like, directly in the middle of the picture space. However, the figures around him are quite animated, either reacting in reverence to George Washington, or lamented their recent defeat.
