This is view of Virginia City in the Nevada Territory in 1861. The bird’s eye view map was made as an advertisement to encourage new business and to bring new residents to Nevada. These kinds of maps became extremely popular after the Civil War. This version is a standard with images of buildings owned by the companies and organizations that helped commission the map.
