About
John C.H. Grabill, a fairly mysterious American photographer, documented many Native Americans in his career. This group portrait depicts four Lakota women standing, three holding infants in cradleboards, and a Lakota man on horseback, staring directing into the camera. Although the figures are dressed in traditional garb in front of a teepee-style home, there is an element of forced posing to this image.
